i replaced the fuel line from the pump to the carb on my 79, stock QJ,
i noticed a smaller line coming from the tank by the fuel pump, it has a piece of rubber hose on it and it capped off, where does this go, or connect to, is it some kind of fuel return or vent, the car runs fine without it. dont know how long its been disconnected, we only bought the car a few months ago. any ideas.
Looks like somebody put an aftermarket fuel pump on that didn't have provisions for a fuel return line.
I would rather use the correct AC pump but if it's running alright don't sweat it.
this is a fuel vent line to a charcoal cannister. if the car is running okay then it's disconnected back farther in the system or possiblly rusted off as this fuel system does not have or should not have a vented fuel cap.
The line to the cannister is on the driver side opposite from the fuel pump.
Unless I am misreading his post, I think he is talking about the fuel return line.

There are acually two lines that go back to the tank. One on the passanger side for fuel pump return and one on drivers, for carbon canister. This keeps the smell on gasoline from the carb to a minamum.
sorry, its on the passenger side , by the fuel pump, and it looks like the fuel pump has been replaced not too long ago, it still looks kinda new.
do the oem fuel pumps have a return line, this one only has 2 connections in and out.
Also note that the Corvette fuel pump is larger than a standard issue Chevy...even though both will fit on the block and operate just fine. Get the right pump for your engine.
