Inferior? Are you out of your mind? The Sandisk Sansa has a bigger screen, longer battery life, and more BUILT-IN features than an Ipod Nano AND costs less. Oh and you can put microSD cards in it to expand your memory on it so you aren't constantly deleting and adding songs to the internal memory, you can just have some microSD cards ($25 for 1gb) with MP3s already loaded.

PLUS with a NON-ipod you don't have use that pig of a program called itunes which CONSTANTLY runs in the background of your computer eating memory and slowing down all of your other programs.

Take it from someone who has worked on computers since they were 9 that the Ipod is not that great.

Everyone 'knows' everything Apple make is perfect and the best possible ever.

Except they really are just OK
Creative labs makes better stuff and has had for years. I have a 10gig jukebox I bought 4 years ago that is still better than I-crap.

The new players all look like removeable drives and only require dropping files onto them for them to work.
Look before you leap.

you don't have to use Itunes. I had all my CD's converted to mp3 on my computer via Realplayer long before i got an Ipod. when i got my Ipod I loaded all my mp3's on to it using Realplayers software. In fact, i still do that with CD's. the only thing i download with Itunes is audiobooks, tv shows and movies. I still think it's best to buy the CD's you like then rip them to mp3. that way if (when) your computer and/or Ipod crashes you'll always have a backup.

I have a really funny visual in my head of standing in line at an ice cream shop watching a movie on a screen the size of a postage stamp. Very entertaining image. I say personal preference. If you want to watch 1/100 scale movies...get an iPod. If you want all the storage and compact ability without the price...get ANY other MP3 player.

Note: My girlfriend's favorite part of me buyer her the iPod? The package.

I used to sell 8088's and 8086's. Working with computers for a really long time is really irrelevent to this. Obiously we are all going to have our own opinions and that's great though.

However, iTunes doesn't have to always run in the background eating anything and quite frankly is a great program for interfacing with an MP3 player.

Bottom line is that there are other good players, the iPod just happens to have the whole package and has done a really great job with their product.

Pretty good...
Oh and did you know that Apple had to Pay Creative Labs like 90 million for patent infringement?

Unlike the Nano, it can play all different kinds of video format and they look crisp and clear. Also like I said, the screen is bigger than the Nano's and you could put a whole movie and some extra mp3s on to a microSD card, if you want.

Honestly, though, who the hell wants to watch video on a 2" screen? That's why I have my $200 laptop. I can just plug it in in the car or train and watch movies, play games, listen to music, and sometimes browse the web.

By the way, I don't actually own an MP3 player. I've no need for one since my vette's stereo plays mp3 cds and cds are free from work.

By the way, Apple's OS is based on an operating system that's over 10 years old AND they use the same CPU that most Dells use nowadays. They're not invulnerable to viruses and anything and everything for them costs A LOT more than a PC. (Office costs more for macs and repairs cost more because you HAVE to have Apple fix em) Nothing Apple makes is cutting edge. They just wrap old stuff up in a pretty package.

I don't want to get off topic from what the OP asked, but can't just let that comment go. This is a typical comment from a Windows user. I was a Windows only guy for years and years even dubbing all Mac products as Crap-N-Tosh until OS X came out.

Macs generally have higher end hardware in them than a typical PC and if you truly look at the costs hardware for hardware, you will find that they are not more expensive. Repairs can be done just as easily on them as a PC; just buy the parts. Office cost more because Microsoft purposely prices it higher for Mac; Apple has nothing to do with MS Office pricing since it's made by MS.

Why is it that Windows Vista is trying so hard to be exactly like OS X if it is "junk"? Why is the iPod by far the best selling MP3 player in the world? They must be doing something right!

BTW, I am not anti-windows or anti-Microsoft. If it wasn't for MS I wouldn't have the career that I have. Bill Gates is an innovator and makes a lot of great products as well. I use both regularly. I just can't stand when people bash Apple/Mac without ever having owned one of their products.

I own some stock in Creative. It's been flat for years because their MP3 players are poorly designed, ugly, and they have inadequate marketing. Shareholders are up in arms because of this. Many expect the company to go under, especially with the new competition from Microsoft's Zune. I respect your loyalty to your little MP3 player, but in the real world, people just aren't buying the Creative products.

And here I am, thinking this forum was above childish 'mine's better than yours' discussions like these.

Each MP3 player has it's pro's and con's and even the Ipod is not perfect (face it or grow up and then face it ). Most I see in this discussion is interpretation and not fact.

Fact is that most big brand MP3 players are very close to each other in design, capacity and functionality. Whichever you choose is purely based on personal preferences and therefore impossible to compare.

If you seriously want to compare products, do it like for example tomshardware.com does with videocards and such.

Not just office costs more for macs just about any piece of software costs more for macs. Myth II, which is like 6 years old, is $10 for PC and $30 for macs. http://apple.whipnet.net/ For some more reality on macs.

My job prior to this one I had to salvage or scrap used computers to be sold in bulk. Most of Apples were just trash and very few were salvageable because they were just flat out broken. If they were to be scrapped we had to yank the hard drive out and drill holes in it. Ever tried to yank a hard drive out of an iMac? Worst experience of my life.

The thing about apple stuff is you don't fix them, you replace them. If the battery in an Ipod dies, it's not replaceable. Any other MP3 player can have the battery replaced.

My girlfriend called a local Mac store about her iPod and what it would cost to have a new battery put in when hers goes bye bye. They told her it would be more cost effective to just buy a new iPod as the tiny little thing would have to be sent in to Apple, and serviced by them. They charge so much, for this, for that, whatever...and it ends up costing more and taking almost a month. F that.

Apple charges $59 to replace an iPod battery. It takes approximately one week from the time Apple receives the iPod, until you get it back. I got my first iPod four years ago this Christmas and have yet to replace its battery.
