Do you mean load songs from a CD to an iPod? Yes, but you have to have a special ripping software to burn an 'Image' of the CD's music onto your hard drive, and then your iPod can load the library from that. I think.
Well that sounds a little bit above my head.I do have I tunes and what was it last year I think, pepsi offered free songs under the bottle cap.Well I had some and my niece had a bunch of them so I've got a pretty good libary going on, but I've got a few CD's that I'd like to put into an I pod.I don't have one yet, but if it's easy enough to do I'll go buy one of those $198.00 jobs that can hold what 1,000 songs?
I am an old fart that loves music. I was given an Ipod several years ago and went on a rage of ripping songs from cd's to the itunes software. From there you can listen to songs based on genre "srtyle" such as rock, holiday, blues, etc. Or make your own special playlist of songs from your library. Or have it randomly play your songs that are stored.
It is the best present I have ever recieved. Just get some kid to show you once on the computer and it will become as fimilar as an ATM
The really cool thing is some of the newest head units have a direct plug in port or cable for lugging iPods into your car's stereo. It's handy having that much music at your disposal so easily.
I got my Ipod 3 yrs ago and love it. Basically what your wanting to do is a 2 step process, First "RIP" or load the CDs onto your computer like Durango said. This can be done by a BUNCH of different software packages including MS Media player that probably came with your pc. The Ipod comes with some propriatary software called ITunes, it is the Music Management Database for your Ipod. Once the stuff you want is on the pc, you just go over to Itunes and "Add" the files or folders you want to the Ipod database, then sync it it with your pc. Nuttin to it. Like Erv, I went on a tear and ripped all my CDs (some 350) all my GFs cds and got on a mail list for music I like. Ended up with something like 18000 songs and currently about 50 books. Thats a lot more than the Ipod can deal with, so the stuff I keep in Itunes is a subset of my complete librairy
I too love my iPOD,..great for the Vettes' factory FM Stereo radio with the use of the "monster cable". Simply find an unused and quiet FM frequency and set the cable's channel selector and play away.
And with iTunes, I doubt I'll ever buy another CD again.
Is an Ipod somehow different from regular MP3 players? I've got an Archos and simply copy my files (mp3, wav, wma, etc.) to the player using Windows Explorer. Can't you just do that with the Ipods?
(How is this on Tech / Performance? I guess it's "tech" )
No, an Ipod is no different except for the fact that you are forced to use Itunes (unless you hack it) to put songs on it. The extension on head units works for every device with a 3,5mm jack line-out.

The iPod my girl has, a 4gig Nano, will store and play video and pictures. It's very tech amazing with it's tiny screen, but I don't feel it's worth the money over a standard MP3 player. iPod just has the one-off software you have to watch out for, and a very unique plug port.
I also have an Ipod and I love it. I like Itunes too, I used it before I had the Ipod and prefer it to Windows player and Yahoos too. It is easy to use and navigate.

That's not exactly true; but close. iTunes (free software that comes with the iPod or can be downloaded) will read any/all songs directly from your CDs into iTunes, then automatically load them onto the iPod. It technically is a two step process but it is not difficult for the user and is seamless. No additional software is needed other than what you get with the iPod. If you have other MP3 files on your computer you can put them on the iPod as well.
What really rocks it the Harmon Cardon Drive+Play in your car. It allows easy hookup of your iPod in your car and gives you a great interface to the iPod. I have one in my Pathfinder and it is directly wired into the stereo. I prefer this much better than any other car connector I've seen for the iPod and prefer the hard wired over the FM modulator any day.

I prefer the head units that ARE the adapter, and all you do is plug into the port or cable on the head unit, and it's reads it as another source like CD or radio.
Bottom line...the only MP3 player to buy is an iPod. If you buy something else to be different, you will have an inferior player.
No way! The ipods are overpriced for what you get. I guess if you drink the Apple kool-aid you would think the ipods are great, but you are locked into that format. Stuff from Archos and the others is way ahead of what is offered for the ipod.
