Unscrew the large brass housing and the gear comes out, usually with it.

It has a slot, although not deep enough to do any good. Leave the tach. cable on and using Channel-lock type pliers, squeeze hard on the cable end and just unscrew counter-clockwise. They can get stuck hard...

The gear on the main shaft won't allow it to come out. THere's a lip at the top of the housing. What am I doing wrong?

Once you unscrew the brass bushing, the gear comes out with the bushing. There is nothing retaining it on the inside - there is no lip.

I got the tach drive gear out. But the gear on the mainshaft wont allow the entire mainshaft to come out of the housing.

Could it the area where the roll pin goes through the shaft has a burr and maybe dragging on the lower bushing? Just a guess.

Ok, the main shaft gear....Yes, burrs on the shaft/gear will cause it to stick, as well as dried oil film. May need to soak it in P.B blaster or similar. Be careful with the bronze shaft bushings.

In order to remove the main shaft you have to remove the gear that drives off the cam shaft. So remove the roll pin and slide the gear off. The shaft now will slide out.

Luckily it appears that ecklers sells a new upper bushing. So now it appears that I need to figure out how to get the bushing out.

I use a long 1/4 inch hard steel rod. Catch the edge of the bushing and drive it out.
