Is there a such thing? Also, how does it look? I am about to do the interior, and part of that will be the speedo and tach bezzles wth the chrome, and it looks pretty bad. what, if anything, can I do to freshen up all the chrome on my car? (t-top bar, door handle, door trim, outer door handle, any and all chrome). I want it to shine like my new paint job.
Krylon with the shiny silver cap. Other brands, too.
Works well on plastic that has "chrome" on it. Don't recommend for metal like door handles and t-top bar. Use light coats to prevent running.
It may work OK on the bezels, but I doubt if it'll look right on the other parts you mentioned. It just doesn't look like chrome on a big area. I tried it on some sidepipe covers and it just didn't look right. I sanded it all off and went to an aluminum paint which looks more like brushed aluminum and is OK.
This is what I did to my t-top trim. I had the chrome pieces rechromed and the stainless middle buffed and polished. The two end caps that go in the corners (top of windshield) you can replace with new ones for the same price with better results. The rear wings (that are riveted to the middle) are no longer available, so have those rechromed.
Look in the yellow pages, I called a place about recoating hooker sidemounts, and they said they do rechrome, but nothing that big. I did not get details since they couldn't do what I needed. Might be worth a shot, might not.
I later found a place that could do big jobs, but it was cheaper to buy two new sets of sidemounts than have one set redone. Pretty steep!
I used Mothers aluminum/chrome polish on my t-tops it looks MUCH MUCH better now, the sun reflects off of it nicely, and it shines... now if i could get my paint job to match the t-tops .
