If properly wetup and all systems working good there is no performance gain on a basically stock motor. If you want to get rid ofthe points and be a little more modern the HEI is tough to beat. There is a groupl purchase going on right now for one that seems like a pretty good deal. This just eliminates the setting of the points. Either way if properly working they are a good setup. The effort is minimal to swap out the distributor. Just will lighten your wallet a few $$$

I have seen a huge range of problems with the electronic conversions, and I remove them and install points in every car I work on. I have done actual back-to-back dyno testing on points versus the electronic conversions, and there is no difference at all in power output. If you want a performance difference, you can add an MSD6AL to the stock points setup and your points will last almost forever. Just run a good set of points, such as the NAPA CS786 with an RR175 condensor. I'd keep the points if I were you...

Thanks for the replies. Lars, thats why I typed, "I THINK" I may want to change over. Maybe its one of those, if it ain't broke, sayings? What is a MSD6AL?
