Default advice needed for paint issue

hi all

My 68 vert had a frame off done (pictures indicate mid 80's) in Kentucky and was sold to a older gentleman in Michigan that had a lot of antiques stored in his garage along with the vette. Of course, although he never hardly drove the car (< 3000 miles in 10 years) it did sustain a few paint chips from an overcrowded garage. ( He sold it to me for start up capital for his antique business) The paint is now a nice 10 footer, and I am hoping that I can have my shop match and touch up existing paint. Thoughts, Advice? thanks...

I would think that since the car has been garaged all these years that you shouldn't have a problem matching the paint since fading should be virtually nonexistent. Good luck.

There are only 2 ways to "touch up" paint chips:

1. Dab each chip and fill it with paint, following by a wet sand and polish. This never really looks that good up close, and is generally regarded as more of a temporary repair to get rid of the gross imperfection.

2. Sand and smooth each chip area, and then paint and blend the panel. This is the right way to do it, but if you have chips down the length of the car, you're looking at a complete re-paint for the side of the car, blended up over the top areas.

Bottom line is that there is not a cheap, easy fix to make chips disappear in a nice paint job.
