Default Body Mounts

Hi there all, new here and it seems to be a cool place to talk and get and or give info here. Anyway I have a 68 coupe in the works now and was looking for body mounts. Seems I have not found anyone selling them. Then I see in a catalog that 68 had a solid mount. This car does have rubber in it now, but it is a real (as you guys say) BUBBA car. As soon as I figue out what it should have I can set the body back down on it. Thanks!!

I've got a 71 coupe and got my body mounts from Volunteer vette on the web. They are solid mounts to replace the solid mounts it had from the factory.

If you have the original frame it would have the solid body mounts. If the body is off, look on the driver's side near where the seat would be and also over the rear wheel, same side. If you can find a number that matches the last numbers of your VIN on the windshield pillar you have the original frame. If not, you will have to take measurements to see if the mounts are at the right height on the frame. In 73 the body mounts changed to rubber and the mounts were placed a little lower to compensate for the thickness of the rubber mounts.

At worst your car would sit ~1/2" higher with rubber mounts.

Look for BarryK's website. He has some engineering drawings of the Vette frames with dimensions.

Thanks for the info, the car does have the right frame numbers on it as does the engine and trans and rear end. It is a very late 68. Do you think there would be a noticeable difference in running either type mount?

68's came with solid aluminum body mount bushings. I still had them on my car when i lifted the body and replaced with poly. Word on the street is you want to go with poly or rubber. If your building back to original then you go with the aluminum solid ones, you can get them from VBP, Corvette Central, MidAmerica or Dr. Rebuild. The solid aluminum bushings transfer much of the vibrations from the drivetrain to the body of the vette which can be annoying. The solid mounts are also very unforgiving on the fiberglass body over time. The rubber is more forgiving but won't last as long as poly. Really your choice, i installed poly. Read these posts for more info on what we have done.

I think I bought a replacement body mount kit from Volunteer Vette for my 68, all bolts, washers, spacers, nuts and aluminum bushings. (don't remember if i got the SS bolts/nuts from them)
I bought the kit so I knew the thickness of the bushings so I could sand down the poly bushings to the same size.

I think these were the part #'s on the energy suspension website and summit website (don't remember, did this early 2006)

Thank You very much for the info. Think I'm going to go with the ploy type. Going to try sitting down the body and see what all the clearances look like with the 1/2 in spacer in it, should be NP though, but I'm going to check it anyway and then order the ploy mounts.
