I am finally getting to the interior of my '69 and will need to replace the carpet. I wonder what vendors people have had good experiences with. Also do people put anything under the carpet?

I'll have to dig through some paper work to find the name of the comp. I got my carpets from.
But the ans. to the second part of your question is , yes. Do put a sound deadner and heat shield under the new carpet. I used some stuff I got from a local shop, that has "jute" on one side and foil on the other. It made a big difference in the amount of heat and noise you get inside the car.
Many here on the forum use a veriaty of stuff, I'm sure you'll get a lot of good ideas.
The first set I installed in my 82 was in 1998. They were from Auto Custom Carpet. They faded from a Dark Red to a Bright Orange in 4 years! When I called them to inquire about this they said "Do you expect them to last a lifetime for our price?" My wife paid $250 for the set.
I bought the replacment set from Al Knoch for about the same price and the fit was a WHOLE bunch better and the carpet appeared to be more plush. They have been in the car for 5 years now and STILL look new.
I just installed some of my carpet from ACC. The fit is crap and the quality is worse. It took me a full day just to get the rear compartment carpet to fit and look right. Lots of trimming, and gluing. I got the 80/20 loop and after gluing it all in and rubbing out the wrinkles etc with my hands, my carpet is now all "furry". After vacuuming it, it looks even worse. It almost looks like old wore out carpet, not the nice, tight loops that it should look like.
