Default Rear Spring Bolt

I am looking for a source for the bolt that holds the rear spring leaves together. Not the spring to trailing arm, nor the spring to rear housing.

This is a one-of-a-kind bolt that goes through the center of the spring under the rear end. It has a round button type head and is fine thread, about a 5/16 diameter.

It can't be a high strength bolt as all it does is keep the leaves aligned with each other. It does have that darn small round head.

Have tried VB and Corvette Central, Corvette America, no dice. All of them sell the replacement plastic liner kit. No bolt.

I have a seven leaf rear spring if anyone have an extra or knows of a source.

Thanks

Bob

Just a shot...try Van Steel. There's not much they don't have regarding this type of stuff if it's an original fastener. Good luck!

I used a 5/16" socket head bolt (the ones you tighten with an allen wrench) from the hardware store. Worked perfectly.

I bought mine from Corvette Central:

1953-1980 REAR LEAF SPRING CENTER BOLT WITH NUT 582112 $5.20

For some reason, they don't show this in the printed catalog, but I found it in the on-line catalog. Before the new one came in, I put my 7-leaf spring back together with a 5/16" grade 8 bolt. Since the hex head fit the hole in the differential cover, I left it alone, so I now have the new one in my parts drawer. If you send me your address, I'll put it in the mail and save you the trouble of ordering it.

Default Spring Bolt

Vette Gator:

The socket head bolt sounds like the answer for me. I'll give that a try. Much easier to find and use.

The bolt didn't have much tension on it. Had to cut the 0ld one due to rust. It is strange that so many Corvette supply stores have the spring liner kits and no bolt. I asked them how do you use the kit to put your spring back together when most of the bolts were a throw away?

Oh well. Thanks for the idea and offer. We'll "Get er done".

spring bolt

zip sells it for $4

for me the problem was finding the spring liners, everyone and their mother sells them for the 2 1/4" spring, but try finding the 2 1/2" ones
