Steering Column Disassembly (pics)
I want to repaint the steering column covers/shrouds and I want to regrease all the bearings in the column. I have most of the column apart but I am stuck. It is the assembly with the shaft Knuckle that I can't seem to figure out how to disassembly. I did a search on the forum and looked at all Jim Shea's papers; which are very helpful. Do I need to take the steering column out of the car to disassembly the lower part of the column? Sorry for the fussy pics, I have a crappy digital camera.

I have the rebuild of a 77 column documented here:

The next thing that you need to do is remove the piviot pins on both sides of the column. The way that I did it is to screw in a small bolt into the piviot pin and pull it out with a hammer ( just like you would a nail stuck in a board). Be careful though because someone else tried it and cracked the housing.
Hope it helps.
