I'm going to be buying a new air compressor in the next couple of weeks and need some help. Home depot has a 60 gallon Husky air compressor, which I am planning on buying. Is a 60 gallon tank enough? I mean, I'm going to be doing all of the body work, as well as painting the entire car myself, at home in the garage. Its $700 Canadian. Does anybody have this air compressor...the 60 gallon Husky model from Home Depot? If so, do you recommend it, or do you propose that I buy a compressor with a larger tank? The one I have right now is way too small for the job.
CFM is the name of this game. Check the CFM of your gun/tools. That will give you your answer. 3HP used to be a good rule of thumb for this kind of work.
yeah the cfm rating is what you want, it probably says right on it what its rated to be used with
I have a 60gal craftsman and it keeps up just fine with my DA... when I painted my firebird using an hvlp type gun the compressor was just bored
I just bought (from Depot) and installed the husky 60 gal compressor last week. It runs my DA without dropping below 90 psi. I am very satisfied with it. While you are at Depot ypu will need a few fittings and a small regulator ad they do not include them with the unit. They also will sell you the correct oil for it.
I also have this 60 gallon unit from HD. I only paid $399 USD, that's a lot less than $700 CAN as far as I think to know ..... what's the current exchange rate ?
Anyone else have comments on this air compressor? I'm doing all the work on the vette myself (bodywork, welding, paint, frame....everything!) so I want to make a good choice on an air compressor. I'm just about sold on this 60 gallon husky one, but I'd still like to get more comments on it. Please post!

Yep, here is the one my dad has and it is the same size as the Husky with 1 more HP. His works great with no sweat. TSC is the store.

True, but the tool is just as important. Some cheap air tools require huge amounts of cfm and are useless such as some of the harbor freight junk. So you are better off knowing the cfm of your compressor at what psi and matching your tools to the cfm required and their operating psi!

KMS tools has one on sale with more cfm for only slightly more expensive.
I saw that HomeDepot sells a $549USD 60 gallon Coleman compressor that looks like the one you posted above. The Husky is the better deal for $150USD less
