I know the 400 can be made into a 427, 454, 468... That's be cool But 420 seems reasonable. How much pain rail modification is going to be needed/done for the 3.875 + 6" rod?

Depends on rod brand, style & size of rod bolt/capscrew. Do yourself a big favor ... get yourself some build books & catalogs from MANUFACTURERS ... study study study.

Have been, My race motor builder whose been in the business over 50 years has been sending me his stuff, I'd have him build my motor but he's 2000 miles away and I havent seen him in 2 years. he'd install it and tune it for free... I just cant get it there.
I was just hopin by doin a post Someone would step forward and say "this is what I used when I put my monster motor together"
How much $ do you have set aside for chassis mods. High engine hp is great...but if you cant get the power to the ground, all the hp in the world is worthless.
From: Who says "Nothing is impossible" ? I've been doing nothing for years.

This is true for drag racing, what about all the other types of driving one would do ? Like accelerating from say 40 to 80mph, or perhaps driving around a C5 Zo6 on the highway
I have a group of mini truuck guys who can fab up anything, and being as I have helped them out greatly in saving their shop, and fine tuning some of their issues with motors. They know they have a debt to me. The chasis is basically a four link from the factory. I'll have some square or round control arms made (adjustable), and Then run part of the roll cage to the top mounts and reinforce them. then box the section under the doors, and I have that 9"... I also called a couple small business' and their willing to throw down their time and charge their parts cost only for work. I have a guy willing to build me a "bullet proof" 9" for free.... (aint a bummer). I also have a trans shop waiting for the motor specs. same deal almost. I've got backing I just want need a killer motor. The motor guys I know want $$ for their knowledge. And I know us corvette guys, especially on here are quite friendly and helpful.
If you couldn't tell I'm getting sponsor's to help me.
Even better news! I came across a 454 virgin block for $50 my pro-street guy will garantee it to be in perfect shape, and it's a former race block... I should be going to pick it up tomorrow. now this turns my build into a ?
454 now your talking. .060 over 467 maybe a little longer stroke
for some more cubes, inexpensive oval port heads they are
everywhere for little money add the 219/188 valves, solid lifter
cams are cheap in cost. If you just go with a 467, 525/550 HP
should be no problem then add NOS for more HP. Guy I knew
back in the 70s had a 67 427 conv. vette with flairs on the back
probably a 3400 pound car it was a street car he drove it everywhere
it had an M22, 456 gears. he took it to the drags changed plugs
adjusted the valves bolted on a 10 inch set of slicks. ran a grudge race
with a mustang he beat the guy with an 11.50 mustang ran a little quicker
but fell asleep, I had 50 dollars on me bet it all on the vette. His car
was nothing but a total street car, with a 467 you can put that el camino
in the tens.
Engine in the vette, 427 closed chamber 11 to 1 comp., rectancle port heads
L/88 cam, intake was a high rise chevy with 850 DP, hooker headers,
no fancy roller this or roller that.

I've always wanted a BBC for the el camino. However finding them around here together is rare, and cheap? Not happenin... Found one that needed rebuilt, been sitting outside, motor uncovered, $1500.... and that was the cheapest! Then my prostreet guy got wind of my situation and came up with a bare block. Now I need a crank and heads to get started. WHICH MEANS, I can get what I'm going to need without having spare parts lying around. I know I can put a bbc together and in the car to run 11's 500+ hp and TQ is what I want. BBC has always been the route I wanted to go but so rare to get, and so many "smaller is better" guys around here. Time to whoop their behinds at their own game!
