Default Water Wetter. This stuff really work?

Wetter water for better cooling.
Red Line Water Wetter provides corrosion and rust protection for modern aluminum and cast iron cooling systems. This unique additive reduces coolant temperatures by as much as 30 degrees F. It can be used in plain water to provide much better heat transfer properties and protection than glycol-based antifreeze, or added to new or used antifreeze to fortify inhibitors and reduce foaming.

marginally effective with a 50/50 mix and gets better as the percent water increases.

It helps, much better to have a normally functioning cooling system though

I'm just considering it when I fire up the new 327 for the first time. I'm running 10.5:1 compression and figured I'd give it a try. No funds for DeWitts radiator, (my stock type is about 2 years old) but the rest of the cooling sytem is new.

As mentioned above [and in previous threads], it helps with just water...but not with water/antifreeze mix.

IMO, just a waste of money. If all is right with your cooling system, you don't need such stuff.

I used it in my 79 that was having heat problems and it didnt help at all. Used it with both plain water and a 50/50 mix. A forum member recommended some 40 below stuff so I'll try that also. Can you tell I'm desperate?

Just a reminder, do you have all the seals in place around your radiator shroud, (sides, top ). The more air you can force thru the radiator the better. My 79 cooled down considerably once I sealed it up. good luck.

I've tested it in several vehicles:

On my old 383 (with mechanical fan)

1) with 50/50 water/antifreeze, it's basically worthless (5 degrees difference maximum)
2) with pure water I got following difference:

Pure water alone - 230 degrees coolant temperature
Pure water with 2 bottles of water wetter: 210 degrees

Those tests were performed on the same day in identical weather conditions.

On my mild 355 engine in my yellow '68:

Pure water alone: 210 degrees
Pure water + water wetter: 195 degrees

This test was also done on the same day with identical conditions...

Tried it in my '94 GMC Sierrar Turbo Diesel Truck and didn't see a a difference but the truck does have antifreeze and a 195 degree thermostat..

no, it isn't. Redline is a very reputable company which also makes other great products and I have personally tested water wetter many times and it does work if you use low to no antifreeze... Water Wetter does work.. However, running a high temperature thermostat might affect results.. I use no or high flow 160 degree thermostats in my C3's

It's a patch, not a fix...

There's no such thing as overkill on the cooling system..

Here are a few ways to get enough cooling..

1) Aluminum Radiator
2) high volume water pump
3) high flow thermostat
4) electric fan(s)

Electric fans and high flow water pumps are the most effective way to get enough cooling..

I use it for it's claimed anti corrosion/water pump lube in a straight distilled water aluminum radiator, aluminum head/manifold setup.
Any other products out there for us pure H2o users?

I have heard to add it with straight distilled water but only if you live in a place were your water wont freeze. Its supposed to protect from rust and other things and still run straight water.

I use a product from Prestone....they have a fancy name for it but basically it`s water pump lube....cost around $1.00, NAPA has a similar product at a slightly higher cost...
