Give the light away to somebody who needs it and spend the $70 to get a good dial-back timing light so you can set your timing correctly. Pull power off the alternator hot terminal.
Personally, I like my old, chrome monster light. A little inconvient, but still works great. I clip on to the hot lead of my coil (1969) and ground to the accelerator bracket. Buy or make a timing tape for your dampener to set total advance.
Lars is right, but either way, be carefull connecting to the alternator. Its the correct location, but its easy to short the alternator connection to ground and fry the Fuse Links
