Could use your help,1980 vette,, just Pulled engine and trans last nite , to install new 350 motor ... question concerns trans quite sure its a 350C need to install B&M 2400 whole shot converter and B&M shift kit , there's a electrical conection on the trans Driver side behind shift linkage above pan, (converter lockup) will this pose a problem with new Converter and shifting ?? thanks

My 80 had the 350C but now has a Doug Nash 5 speed. However when I was looking into the automatic it appeared you needed a torque converter and shift kit for the 350C. You should contact B&M.

If it were me I'd go with a replacement 4 speed auto with the lower first gear. I think the Turbo200 used in the Buick Grand Nathionals is the same size as the 350 trans but they now have them behind big motors making lots of power.

You would need a converter with a lockup if you want to retain this feature. I'm pretty sure though, if you put in a converter without a lockup, you'll simply lose that feature. it'll still work.

(Hi) I'd put a locking converter in there & wire it up to work. It'll drop rpms by about 300 in top gear, give better economy & reduce the amount of heat generated. Wiring it up to work can be done a variety of ways, the most simple being to install a switch in the cabin to manually select lockup (then you can get a bit more advanced & automatically cut power when you brake (a safety issue as you can stall the engine if you lock the wheels with the converter locked up), vacuum switches to select lockup, etc). If you go this way then you'd better check out the internal wiring by removing the pan & having a look. Mine had one live wire connected to the trans (pin D?????) which then went to a pressure switch & then to the TCC solenoid. The pressure switch, apparently, only closes at high pressure so it prevents lockup at low speed (so I was told).
