Removing 74 BB heads ??
I know about INSTALLING heads....but....is there a correct bolt sequence or technique to follow when REMOVING heads that have been installed for 33 years ??
Thanks....I'd rather ask a dumb question than wish I had !

No real sequence needed but I still tend to go from the center bolts out in a clock pattern. Just a habbit I guess. But be aware those heads are VERY HEAVY especially when you are bent over a fender.

Are you replacing the heads with an aftermarket version? What about rockers, valve springs, etc.

No, not this one...I will go back with all the original components with a new comp XE268H cam - lifters - springs. Considering this car still has the original water pump, carb and fuel pump ... this is more of a restoration than a remod.
You'll gain a new appreciation for aluminum BB heads once you lift that "Detroit Wonder Metal".
The intake isn't a whole lot better.

Yup, that 80 lbs. of cast iron generally tends to pick your feet up off the floor when you try to lift it up while leaning over the fenders. Be very careful on the passenger side if you have A/C. Tolerances are mighty tight there. I managed to punch a hole through the blower housing when I broke the head loose. All that weight tends to go where it wants to.
on my 71, the heads wouldn't come off. I had to run a chain through them and use a cherry picker to "break" them loose. Its like they are glued to the block.
