The latest method I'm aware of is to put it in the sanitary sewer, ie. flush it down the toilet. Yeah it looks bad but flush a couple times and you'll never know it was there. That way it gets treated. The enzymes break up the glycol part and the settler removes most of the heavy metals.

Unless you can back this up, I would say that this method is ILLEGAL.
Gotta be careful with anitfreeze in drains. I was involved once in a deal a long time ago where my company was taking over a facility owned by another co. Just about the time we were finalizing the deal, the local water board folks showed up and gave us a quick lesson in envionmental detective work.
Seems antifreeze kills all those nice enzyme bugs they put in the sewer system to eat the crud. So when it shows up..they get a little ticked. Now of course a little might be undetected....but this place was regularly allowing it to go down the floor drains as they worked on motors.
Turns out they have *specialized* bugs that *like* certain products. When contamination shows up, they drop some of the special bugs in and they will *eat* their way back to the source. I'm serious!!
They had apparently dropped the enzymes in the sewer pipes and over a few weeks time they had worked their way to within a few blocks of the facility. They have crews go around and lift manhole covers searching for them with lights resembling regular black lights. Those enzymes are treated to show under the black light. When they found some in a manhole..they dropped in a new batch and let them continue to eat their way to the source. On this day, they walked in the door...and literally walked around to the floor drains and within a couple of minutes had isolated which drain the antifreeze had been dumped down. It was pretty darn interesting stuff!
Needless to say...this immediately put the brakes on an aquisition!!
When Ever I Purchase Oil..coolant....fluids....i Purchase Them At A Retailer That Also Provides Maintance Repairs....so, I Just Take Back The The Used Stuff In The Containers...and Their Plastic Sack...and They Dump It All, Into Their Recycle/disposal Tanks... Which Is Then Picked-up ....
P.s. I Also Leave A Few Dollars For Their Time And Expense....
