Lars, What carb base gasket do I need?

Lars, What carb base gasket do I need?

1972 454
with stock Quadrajet. Is this the manifold with the crossover groove that needs the three gasket setup? Thanks - John

Obviously I'm not Lars, but that's the type of manifold where you need to use the 3 piece gasket.

That manifold does not have the crossover - you don't need the special 3-piece gasket. Just use the standard 1/4" thick open plenum base gasket and you'll be fine.

Sorry, I was mistaken, but isn't that passage between the secondary openings what indicates the need for the 3 piece gasket?

No. 3-piece gasket intakes have a channel running the width of the base in front of the primary holes

Gasket one has a channel that provides communication across the channel. Gasket 2, the metal one, has no channels and acts as heat shield. Gasket 3 provides a seal between the metal gasket 2 and the carb.

Intake: Has chaennel in front of primaries..

Gasket #1 provides HOT EXHAUST communication across channel and communication bewteen secondaries with the nickel sized hole....TOP RIGHT

Gasket 2 is metal. Blocks HOT EXHAUST GASES in front channel but allows secondary communication...

Gasket 3.....seals carb agianst metal gasket 2....

Gasket 1 you buy only in a rebuild kit...$20 (see below)
Gasket 2 you can special order from NAPA or off the 'net $7-12
Gasket 3 you can buy anywhere....$3

or Buy all 3 from Lars for $15 (gasket 1 separatly not in a kit)
