Don't you need a electric choke if you don't have a manual one?

Yes, you have to have a choke of some kind or the carb will never work properly. Electric is easier but most prefer manual chokes.

From seeing posts like this previously, the wiper motor seems to be the most suggested connection.

I did that too but I went one step further. I created a fuse block in the engine compartment, switched by a relay, triggered by the IGN wire on the fuse block, and powered by the alternator's BAT post.

Make sure that the 12V source is switched from the key otherwise you will always have power on the choke coil and it will not work. Also make sure you remove the gasket between the cover plate and the choke housing as the electric choke needs to ground through the carb to work properly. With the motor cold losen the three screws on the side of the choke cover and rotate the cover until you see the choke plate start to close. When I have set mine I used just enough pressure to close the choke plate and no more. That should be enough to enage the fast idle cam on the side as well when you start the car. You can adjust the idle speed with the fast idle adjustment screw. Usually somewhere around 1200 rpm for the fast idle, but you can put it where you want it.

So twist the new electric choke until choke plate closes completely and then re-tighten? I hooked up to the yellow wiper motor wire. So the "fast idle" setup should still function by pressing on the gas pedal like before to set up?

Can you explain this in more detail? Are you saying the choke is only suppose to get 12v for a split second? If your not suppose to have 12v full-time on the choke, how do guys control that when they pull the power off the wiper? I'm not trying to be a smart @ss, I'm just in the same process of hooking up a choke myself and want to make sure I hook it up right..

The choke should only have power while the key is on.

You only want power to the choke coil when the key is on / if you take the power from just a 12v power source the choke coil will always be hot and it will not work for starting the car. Switched power will supply power when the key is on ( car running) / choke coil slowly warms up and pulls the choke off.

Default ig. switched power

A long time ago I was looking for an ig. switched source for an underhood gauge. I knew the wiper motor had ig. switched power & located the yellow power wire & have posted it many times mostly for el. choke. Not necessary to splice. I just put a connector on the wire & pushed it into yellow wire slot.

I see what your saying now, the choke can always have power on it but shouldn't when you turn the car or key off... If I pull power from somewhere else, it might not be a keyed power source that shuts off, right?

Thanks for explaining because I interpreted it much differently at first..
