JustinD has a 79 vette originally an L/48 car with an auto and
308 rear gears stock converter. He bought the systmax setup
just based on the fact they advertised 450 hp the heads intake
and 3310 carb were ok for him but the cam is redicules for the
combo of car he has he sort of found out the hard way and
is now going to lower rear gears a 3000 stall converter he is
determined to try and keep his 450 hp he could not be talked into
a lessor duration cam to work with his gearing and converter.
The 3000 converter is a recomendation from Hughes to work
with the 4.11s and hot cam.

Default heads and cam and carb oh my

stay with smaller heads and try a 650 instead 750 to much carb at youu altitiude. Also flat tops with a different selection of head gakets , try fel pro around .032 thickness may help with gas issues but still give more hp when needed. Shave the heads clean up bowls and also figure out which tranny to use can help setup , goodluck

He loves the way it sounds (and so does everyone else, especially with open side mounts!). The car has not yet been driven because it is all torn down for resto. The motor looks and sounds great. I just hope the stall convertor is enough help it pull in the low end.

I also feel that a purist is not going to buy an LT1 clone with an automatic. And only a purist is even going to know that the LT1 had a solid lifter cam, in my opinion. I also agree that camel hump heads are probably worth the trouble.

Anybody got some cheap?
I do. 2- 186 double humps, Good cores, Magnafluxed, no cracks. $200 plus shipping to you. Sent PM!
