Hey man it was great meeting you this last weekend. I hope you had fun walking around in the cold and the rain.

Standard stamped rockers get better contact, but rollers have a smooth roller trunnion. It's a shame no one makes a good stamped rocker with roller trunnions.

Either should be fine unless you're expecting very high RPMs in which case I would choose stamped.

Sorry DB, I would never choose stamped. I've broken stamped rockers on mild street engines before. This time I'm building w/Comp Pro Magnums. All the majors make good roller rockers, just don't buy some no name ebay junk. If you are running high RPM then you want a stud girdle too.

The comp pro magnum's are nice. Stainless steel, full roller, same weight at the valve as aluminum. About $300

Hmm...you and a guy I met this weekend have the exact same avatar pic. He's an avid member here and I just could not remember the name. Figured that was you. Sorry.

Comp Pro Magnums or if you like aluminum, try Harland Sharps. There are a few sets of Pro Magnums on fleabay that can be had for not much over $250 shipped. Part of it depends on what lift cam you're running. The 3.75 x 4.600 solid roller engine I'm building will have net lift in the .730 range, I'm going Jesel for durability, ease of maintenance and because I hate stud girdles. I wouldn't even think about a stamped rocker on a solid roller engine, they ain't made for it. I saw a guy try 'em on a big block with about .680 lift, took less than 100 miles for the first pushrod to poke thru the rocker and when we tore it down, there were several close to doing the same.

I have the Comp Cams Hi Tech rollers, they are stainless steel and the last roller rocker you will ever by. They are a like the Pro Magnums, except a little more expensive.

I think they are worth it though as you get a life time guarantee, that's right, you send them a worn out Hi Tech RR and you get a brand new one back for the price of shipping, I have got four replaced so far

Motorhead, just to keep the record straight with my friends down at Comp, the Pro-Magnums have the lifetime warranty, BUT, read below!

I'm not 100% certain tonight but I don't believe the "Hi-Tech Stainless" actually do have the same warranty, but they are rebuildable where the Pro-Magnums are not.

I am positive about the warranty on the Pro-Magnums however. But you must read the fine print here too, as the warranty only applies to the rocker "body" itself against breakage, not the trunnion rollers or the roller tip!

(Add) 63Mako: (Correction) The Pro-Magnums are not stainless steel, they are made with 8650-Chromemoly, same material as many wrist pins! Actually 3X stronger than the aluminums!

Thanks, Gary in N.Y.

P.S. Either way both rockers are excellent. I use a number of the Pro-Magnums here for the 100% stock appearing units, as they fit under the "bone-stock" factory valve cover height with a single thick valve cover gasket!

I think the later stamped rockers, like found on the LT1 motors have a much thicker wall, and are a lot sturdier. I see your point though.

GOSFAST I was ready to pay for a rebuild of the rockers, it was "Red" at Comp that informed me that they had a lifetime warranty so I never paid a cent.

The problem I was having was happening to the "ears" of the rocker that hold the roller so I guess that would classify as the "body" of the rocker

My machinist recommended the Crower Stainless Steel Full roller rockers but they are big bucks. They are also rebuildable. I couldn't afford them so I went with the Pro Magnums.

I have Comp Pro Magnums too. But be aware....they do not have the proper clearance for the larger 1.550 valve spring retainers that come on certain heads...like AFR's! Need a bit of work to fit....

Looks like there may be some misalignment between the rockers and the valve tips.

Maybe try to reset the guide plates. Have had some past problems with the AFR heads couple times myself.

That pic was just a mock up during a pushrod length check. Note the colored valve tips. Guideplates have been adjusted and rockers are dead nuts on since pic...
