Jetdoc, if you pull to one side hard, combined with poor behavior with rubbing, you owe it to yourself to check that control arm....trust me on that. I narrowly escaped a disasterous situation and I suspect my family is pretty happy I did.simply jack one side up and inspect. a crack will mean that you flex, when you flex you rub at best, at worst.....it gives at the wrong time.
I disagree with some peeps here on the rubbing with that tire size. It isnt o.k. and its not something you should just live with, period.
Besides being both annoying and disconcerning, its also going to be stupid dangerous as you will have to monitor wear, which is almost impossible.
going 50 on a hairpin and losing your tire could kill you......proper tires likely wont.
Cheers to all and no offence, were allowed to disagree.
My car doesn't pull one one side when braking and the rub is on both sides but I'll have to get under the car this weekend and see if I have a more pressing problem. Better be safe than sorry.

I have the same problem. I think I'll get the narrower tire.
Mine rub too, so what. Just laugh at how polished the frame will get. From the rust on yours I can tell that you don't drive it often. And if it rubs on the inner fender, bust out the hack saw and cut the corner off.
I don't see how a rusty frame equates to how often a person drives their car. If I had a shiny frame, that would be a fair assumption. I haven't own the car that long so working on the frame is not that high on the list right now. Hopefully in a few years my frame will look as nice as some of cars here.
As far as rubbing the frame and cutting the fender, I think would rather get a narrow tire. Leaving the tire rub the frame or cutting the fender feels like the act of bubba.

Word...thats what I was thinking, WTF is he talking about?

If you are going 50mph into a hairpin and you have the steering locked 100% left or right, chances are you are eating it anyway
The excessive rubbing, of course would cause tire failure, but someone would have to be slamming sterring side to side for that to occur. I know I don't do that - a driver doesn't need to do that - even in ferocious driving. The rubbing is simply from pulling in the driveway, parking, etc...

Well then Bubba's name is GM. When they started offering the 255 tire, they trimmed the inside lip of the fenders. It's not noticeable from anywhere except inside the wheel well.
I have the same tire size and they rub to. You can weld a little on the tabs of the lower control arm. They control how much the tire can turn in, but that is about it.

I'll call GM Bubba from now on.
I didn't find any cracks with my lower control arm so I ordered a set of 225/55-17. Hopefully, they'll clear the frame as well as the fender.
