Windshield wiper adjustment
If you look at the picture posted on the site for the 1973 and up wipers there is a better view of the wiper transmission nuts. These nuts clamp a strap down on top of the wiper bell crank stud. Make sure there is plenty of grease on this pivot crank stud!
If the clamp is worn or the ball stud is shot, or if the bushings are worn out in the transmissions, this will cause this. But one thing often forgotten about is if you have a worn out shaft on the end of the wiper arm where the blade connects to it you will get this every time you use the wipers.
Another cause… Generic wiper blades!
You can check the wiper transmission for excess play by holding the shaft that runs from the wiper transmission base to the bell crank and then move the wiper arm. There is no documented free play listed in any manual that I’m aware of, but if the play is excessive this too will cause the wiper arms to jump or skip. There should be little or no movement between the arm in relation to the linkage. If you have this problem, you need a new or used transmission.
In any case, we have plenty of used transmissions in stock. They are not listed on the web site so you would need to call sales if you need one. I think a good used transmission is about 25.00 per side. You would need to call sales at 800-588-3883 to verify the cost. But I’m sure it’s not more than that.
