Default Park Brake

Could any one explain to me the procedure for removing the park brake handle off of a 69 vert??

I have searched and can't see how to do it?

Thanks!

Which part are you trying to remove? The handle comes off as an assembly, but you need to remove the center console.

I need to remove the black plastic handle grip part so I can replace the plastic slider that hides the gears when in the console...

You don't need to remove the handle to replace the slider. Just cut a slit in the slider where the handle would go and place the slider over the handle. Then place the slider into the cover and place it position. The slit is unnoticeable when it is installed in the guides.

Good luck,
Dino

Thank you,

I figured the slit in the slider was part of where it broke (in half) so I didn't realise that was what I needed to do.

Cheers!

Not to hijack, but while you are in there--I found the one wire that goes to the park brake light; what other wires do I need to mess with to fix it (the light worked a while back and now does not)?

I'll definitely have a look at the wires while I have them exposed.

I really appreciate it. It's one of those little things I'm starting to miss.

There is only one wire (other then those for my power windows.)

Might be a fuse or problem in the console where the light is??

Cut the slit legnth wise. Mine is also broken in half at the handle hole so don't cut on the sides of the handle hole or it will break there again.

Correct.

With ebrake handle down, the tang on the handle should close the ebrake warning switch and the light should go off. With the handle up, the switch opens and the tell-tale comes on.

If you have no tell-tale with the handle up, check the switch and the wire. If the tell-tale stays on with the handle down, move the switch up a bit until it makes good contact with the tang and closes.

Is it one wire from the bulb to the brake and another from the light to the fuses? It used to work, but when Zip re-did my brakes, it stopped working...

On the emergency brake, it's only a tell-tale and makes no electrical connection to the braking system. My guess is that the switch is dirty or has died.

Do you know where it gets power from?

It gets it's power from the back of the Brake warning light. Should be a Tan with white stripe wire that comes from the light and goes to the switch. When the switch closes, it sends this wire to ground and turns on the light.
