The latest symptom is when touching the accelerator slightly the car acts like it is flooding out like a dead spot in an accelerator pump (if it had a carburetor). When driving at approximately 45 MPH and touching the gas pedal slighlty it does the same. When driving normally the trans acts like it's taking too long to get into overdrive which I dismissed as maybe another problem in the making or a typical 700R4 like the one I had in an '88 Camaro years ago. I'm getting fonder of this corvette as we are getting closer. Thanks everyone.

Those symptoms are identical to the ones I had when my fuel pump went. A clogged fuel filter could also cause that. Check your fuel pressure.
You guys are awesome! Thanks . It looks like this will be a job for this weekend. I'm working too late each day this week. I'll let you know. Thanks for all your help. Jim
I found the VSS ,I think, I would have to remove the exhaust system to reach it. What a pain. I will save this pleasurable feat for later when I have more energy.
I bought an original shop manual for 1982 covettes on ebay and it has told me exactly where the VSS is and I will work on it shortly. I guess that one of you have been telling me all along that it was behind the speedometer in the dash. I just got the manual today. This is a real manual!
Do you have a picture of the VSS? My book shows nothing.
I believe this is it, but I could be wrong. It is mounted to the back of speedometer in the instrament cluster . You will have to lower the steering column a little, and remove the speedo, tach cluster to get to it.
The sensor buffer should be yellow in color with three wires coming out of it, and going to the sensor itself.
