Default No start.

This is a continuation of my carb problem. Lars has helped me and I've done the adjustments as per his papers...still just turning, not firing over.

I'm thinking its gettting no spark at this point. I was leaning towards the plugs being fouled or wet with fuel after all of this turning over and over and over and no start.

I removed two plugs only as I'm heading out to work. Both were wet, black, sooty. So rather than just cleaning I will get new ones as these look pretty old as well.

So I think I had/have two probs. The carb being out of adjustment and the plugs.

In my head I'm thinking, (which is a frightening thought, ), if the choke pull off is out of wack should not the car at least start but run like sheet in the morning? If I were to hold the butterfly partially open and turn over the car should it not at least start but idle badly?

During the times I am turning the car over every once in a while it would kinda kick like it got a bit of a spark. I'm thinking the plugs are fouled out?

What say you gurus? I am going to install the plugs tonight or tomorrow and see if I at least get her to fire up. Hopefully the choke pull off adjustement is correct now.

I didn't have any issues before I screwed with the choke pull off, but even messing with that should the car not at least start, even if the pull off was not tuned properly? I will say the car never fired over on the first start, hot or cold, since we bought it last month. In the morning it would usually take two or three attempts then it would run ok.

On a side note, should there be heat sheilds to protect the plugs since the car has headers? Just curious.

I am not the most knowledable here, but I will give it a shot...

Changing the plugs is a good idea. If you have turned it over often without it starting they are sure to be fouled. You might want to think about replacing the wires too if they are original. Just make sure you put them back in the correct order if you do.

After you replace the plugs make sure that you have spark by holding the plug wire boot near the engine block while someone turns the car over. You will see the spark arc if you have juice. I would suggest wearing a pair of leather or rubber gloves so you don't get zapped.

I do not have any heat sheilds for my plugs. As long as your plug wires and boots are not touching the headers or too close that they are melting you should be o.k..

New plugs and perhaps wires should get it started if you have juice. For help setting the carb up, look again to Lars and his papers.

Good Luck!!!

Thanks 77. The wires are actually not original and look to be in good shape. Will keep you all updated.
