I removed an after market radio from my 70, and am installing a Delco (not sure if it's from a Corvette) radio and can't get the power antenna to work. I don't know how to wire the antenna to the radio. Please help!
If I remember correctly, the red should be power, the green should be to the radio for the power antenna connection and the grounding strap needs to be connected to the frame like this:
Yes, that looks like my antenna, but I don't know where to hook the red and green wires to my radio. Out of my radio I have a yellow wire, a black wire and a gray wire. I have the radio working, just can't figure out the antenna. Thanks for your help.
On my 71 I attached the red directly to the fuse box for power.
The green should connect to the power antenna connection on the radio. If you don't have the wiring diagram you should be able to look it up online.
(I'm assuming that you are using an aftermarket radio that works with a power antenna.)
My wife bought me this radio on E-bay. It was supposed to be out of a 70 vette but I don't think it was. I believe that it is just a 70 Delco radio. How do I tell if it will work with a power antenna? The after market radio I took out had the power antenna hooked to a power booster. thanks
I don't believe that there is an easy way of wiring it in to a radio that old. There may be a way to crack open the radio and connect it to somewhere in there to activate it, but that is only a guess. I'm not sure how much power is needed to extend the antenna or if there is a spot inside the radio with that amount of power.
Maybe someone else here that is more of an electrical engineer can chime in.
