Up until just recently the headlights and wiper door on my 72 functioned fine. The only work I've done is swapping out my old starter for a new mini-starter recently. Yesterday I just noticed that my headlights would not raise. I tried the wiper door as well and that did not function either. I wouldn't think that connecting a new starter would interfere with anything but maybe I shorted a wire or something. All my other electrical systems appear to function normally. Could this be an electrical issue? Are the headlight and wiper door on the same circuit were a short would knock them both out? Or does this sound more like a vacuum problem? Haven't had a time to check, but maybe I knocked loose a vacuum hose or something. Just looking for the best place to start troubleshooting.
Vacuum. Headlights and wiper door open and close by vacuum. Swapping the starter should not have affected the vacuum system. Have you checked the vacuum fitting on the manifold?

Haven't had a chance to check anything yet. I guess I'll start checking all my vacuum lines/fittings/etc.
Vaccum...You might have knocked a vaccum hose loose while changing your starter or playing around under the hood. I know my check valve will get knocked out every once in a while. I have done it enough to know exactly what the problem is...lol..good luck
There are several opportunities to cause a malfunction of the vacuum system when you work on the starter. It is most likely a hose that accidentally got pulled loose. Check water shutoff valve and wiper door vacuum relay valve behind the right front fender well.
