Default 69 350/300 carb question

My 69 350/300 seems to have a carb that the numbers match for a 350 horse car..Is this helping the performance of my car at all?

Next question how much power can a high perfromace carb add? If so what carb would be good to look into? figure since the one on the car is not original that it can hurt to replace it with something better.

ANy thoughts on this?

The Q-jet will perform "as needed" to the limits of its capacity. Its capacity is not challenged by your stock 300 hp 350. The carb is not your "weak link"; the heads, intake manifold, and exhaust manifold would have to be changed before your carb would be the limitation. Putting another carb on your engine would be a total waste of money.

Good advice from 7T1vette. Everyone blames the carbs but there is a whole lot more that effects performance. Qjets are great carbs and are rarely the problem.

Default carbs not the problem

A well respected mech looked at my setup and said the carb was the problem...I have an edelbrock 400, he said my engine was dialed in but that the 350 needed a 650 holly...is this possible, or do you have the same answer...and no,,, he does not sell carbs...much less Holly carbs.

what do you think?

Tnx

Toe, a 650 would run out of air around 5500-6000 RPM. THe Q-jet was used on much bigger engines (396,427,454) and worked great. I'd have to go with the same answer.

Default so your saying I should look to a Q-jet, or leave the edelbrock on

so your saying I should look to a Q-jet, or leave the edelbrock on, and look for other issues on the car?

I think he means to stick with the Q-jet, as it is a 750 cfm. You said the mech stated that the carb was the problem... is it because there's something wrong with the carb or just that he doesn't know how to tune it?
