Can anyone tell me how to determine what is my initial timing, total timing, and how my vacuum advance is hooked up?
1973 coupe, 350, Q-jet.........

Your total timing needs to be 36 degrees. Use a 16-degree vacuum advance control unit matched to your engine's vacuum level. Most engines respond best when hooked up to manifold vacuum, but you need to use ported vacuum if emissions are a concern. Modify your advance curve to a max length of 20 degrees and have the total come in at 2500-2800 rpm.
