Serpentine conversion head-scratcher
I've been getting ready to install my serpentine belt system - right now I'm banging my head against the wall. My old water pump has a nipple on it for the heater hose. The new reverse-rotation pump does not. Where the heck do I connect my heater?

Hah I ran into that problem years ago when I first planned serp. Before I finally trashed the heater core idea, I was going to tap one of the radiator hoses with a small heater hose...like found on some of the LT1 motors, and run that to the heater core.

You have to get a "T" and tap into the lower radiator hose. I did this on the serpentine conversion on my V8 powered s10.
Works just fine.
If you can't find a tee locally you can go to www.jagsthatrun.com and get one. Thats where I got mine.

All the L98 serp pumps I know of have that nipple opening on the pass side, and the hose fits though the a/c bracket, assuming the small aluminum Oriental made compressor...wonder if you are getting an LT1 pump by mistake??

You can get one from Edelbrock, Part #8815. I did this on my '91 and the system runs a littler cooler than it did stock (car actually, requires a little more time to come up to full temperature).

Are you sure? He's talking about the serp reverse rotation pumps, and from what I understand all the serp pumps were the same minus the weep holes, heater hose nipples, and material.
I have a '92 Camaro pump on my 405, and it's the same as the truck pumps and the large car pumps.

Use a S-10 pump in this conversion
I used a cast iron pump found on S-10's with the 4.3L 6. Typical years are 1988-1990 and if the your engine has moderate horsepower, about 280-350, the standard flow pump is fine.
This pump has the drilled and tapped hole for the screw in hose connect like the standard pump used with the "V" belts. It points slightly back toward the carb so buy the shorter fitting and some hose to connect to the heating system.
One word of caution, if you are going to use the A/C bracket from a C4 Vette, you will need to do a bit of grinding. If you are using the A/C bracket from a Camaro or Firebird, there are no issues.

NO discussion about what you said above....MY comment is about the obvious fact of too many kids with CAD/CAM systems let loose in GM in the 80s'-90's....probably to day too.....
which is one reason the company is in such trouble....

Matt and I stuck my remanned aluminum L98 pump up against his 406, it seems to be the same depth as the Camaro pump. All seems to be well...now I just need to drill a hole in the bracket for the heater hose.

Oh jeez, so the vette pump was a short pump, and now I forget, the center output shaft was differant diameter from vette to other short pumps....?? been so damn long....for 12 years now, I just replace the L98 pump and call out '88 vette to the vendor, hell with it....
