The first BBQ I ever attended in the States had me running for cover!
The guy who was starting it brought out this bloody big squirt bottle of lighter fluid! I thought I was going to end up like this :blueangel:
We don't have anything like that over here. Lighter fluid to us is what goes into cigarette lighters and is extremely flammable!
You need to try an Aussie BBQ with gum leaves thrown on for a fragrance and flavour you'll never forget.

Bob,the ford steering box was used as it is the same ratio as the chev box....no power steering on mine, far too jiggly....at speed it is more stable without the p/s....parking is character building......as for the barbie,we in melboure thought it was some sydney thing to cook prawns like that.....never seen it done here....the only times i have had barbequed prawns is in chinese/asian restaurants....john :chevy

This Toyota box I have is pretty vague as is so I'll see about changing over when the motor is out.
My last car (XB GT Coupe) had non p/s originally. It had 265s on the front and 315s on the rear and was definitely fun when parking. Finally changed it over to a Landau p/s system.
That shrimp crap was some ad man's idea to attract tourism over here by making out that we called them shrimps in Oz. I've never thrown a bloody prawn on a BBQ in my life. :)

Bob

If you have the Cressida box (like I have), it is a far superior box than the ford unit (but also bigger). If you drive it a lot, the toyota box may be worth keeping.

Thanks Chris....yes the one I have is the Cressida box from what I'm led to believe.
I wasn't aware of the superiorty of either box. I was of the impression that the Ford one was fairly good tho.
I'll check out some local repairers and see what can be done to improve or at least recondition the one I have.

The good thing about the ford box is waaaayyyy cheaper to reco than the cressida. Some guys have paid up to $800 to reco the cressida:eek: , but one from the wreckers is around $150-$200. Have you got headers on your car? It looks as if I'll have to lower the p/st lines that go into the top of the cressida box to get any sort of clearance on mine.

Chris...I'm not sure whether my box needs to be reconditioned or not, but I just have a tendancy to renew anything and everything as I get to it.
Sort of like some sort of obsessive compulsive disorder.
Btw, what do you think of your XE 256 cam? I have an XE 262 ready to go into mine along with the AFR 180 aluminium heads. I'll be wanting some nice extractors too while I'm at it.

Bob

I would have to say I am a little disappointed with my XE256 cam, so far. I think I am running too lean and am in the process of rejetting etc. I have the stock exhaust and no doubt that headers with straight through mufflers would make 40HP difference. It has a nice note to it though and can really boogie into second compared to the stock cam. I still can't smoke em (or spin 'em that much) yet but I hope my carb twiddling will cure that.

P.S. with AFR heads and headers, yours should really scream! I too am obsessive compulsive but my income does not compliment my disability. :D

xrated...You really don't want to know what those heads cost me in total. Howard wants to shaft you with his bloody GST at every opportunity.
The AFR heads come with all the right gear...guide plates and CNC machining...plus they just look great to boot.

Chris...That's a shame about your 256 cam. I hope the 262 plus all the other goodies I've accumulated will all go togther to give me the package I'm looking for.
