I'm sure one or many forum members have done a removal of the A Arms for rebuild, is it necessary to remove the radiator or rad. support to remove the upper arms?
I removed my control arms without removing anything else. Before I put it all back together though, I removed the alternator and a/c pump so that I could get the brackets chromed. It occurred to me then that it would have made it easier to remove the control arms if I'd removed the alternator and a/c pump first. It did make control arm refittment easier without the alternator and a/c pump there...
The mechanic at the shop is telling me he can't remove the upper A arms with out moving the rad. support, I wonder if somthing is bent or out of place?

Your mechanic is more than likely blowing smoke up your whohah so he can NOT really remove anything and charge you for the extra work.
Just to be sure, can you take some pics of the upper A-arms and post them so we can have a look for ourselves?

Sounds like it If he's trying to slide the control arms into the engine bay to get them off the studs, then he will have difficulty. If he removes the control arm studs then it's fairly easy to get the control arm out.
Take the nuts off the studs then use a slide hammer through from the wheel arch, over the studs and tap them out...
But can you get the shroud out easily? I think it would be easier to just pop the control arm studs...
Undo the radiator hoses, the upper radiator clamps and the fan. The whole thing slides out. I needed to pull them anyway, and my studs weren't happy about moving.

It's a lot easier to just remove the studs. Pull the nuts off, and then press the studs out using a socket and a C-clamp. Once the studs are out, the arm comes off easily. This is a heck of a lot easier than pulling the fan shroud.

Taking that fan shroud out was a pain in the butt. I do not recommend that to anyone unless they plan on leaving it out.

I just went through removing and reinstalling a shroud on my 73. I agree, Royal Pain in the ***! I put the shroud back in, but next time it will be electric fans for me I think.
