Headlight switch problem?
I just installed a dash cap on my 1982 vette. It made the dash thicker around my headlight switch so I could not get the retaining bolt to screw into the headlight switch bracket. I was able to get a machinist friend to fabricate a longer bolt. He had to tap the bracket on the headlight switch to accept a standard pitch bolt since we were not able to locate a bolt with automotive threads like the OEM. It worked like a charm. I reinstalled the headlight switch, instrument cluster, and a new Pioneer Supertuner radio. Here's my problem. When I drove the car the dash lights for the speedo and gauges would not turn off. I tightened the nut for the headlight switch to ensure the shaft was going in all the way and the parking lights and speedo dash light went out, but the gauge lights stay on unless I turn the ignition key off. Now the speedo light won't work either (blown bulb maybe?). It feels like the **** on the headlight switch is a tad wobbly so I'm thinking it may be bad. It is only 1 year old and I didn't think I did any damage by removing it. Any opinions would be appreciated.
