The purple wire goes on the "S" terminal on the solenoid from the clutch start switch or neutral switch if auto trannie. It is this wire that supplies 12V to engages the solenoid to spin the starter.

Wow things are slow today.The wires you have are for a points type ignition.On the starter there should be an S term. and an R term. The purple goes on the S and the yellow goes on the R. Your red wire is right but make sure to put the battery cable on with the red wire.Note-the small black wire is the ground for the wipers DONT put it on with the red wire even thiugh the hole is big enough-it goes to the block or starter mounting bolt.

The yellow goes from the "R" terminal on the solenoid to the + terminal on the coil if you have point ignition. If you have HEI, I don't think the wire is used.
