Default rear end help

ok i have been reading a ton on rear ends because i just broke mine. when i look under the car with it in gear the left axle turns and the car does not move so i guess i broke the left outer axle. what should i do to help keep this from happening again? is this a common thing to break? will parts at the top of this page fit right in http://www.tomsdifferentials.com/catalog.asp?pg=23 should i just buy new stock ones?

help please.

If you indeed did snap your outer axle you will have to rebuild that spindle assy.
Best thing to do is tear it apart first then determine all the parts you'l need.
