Heater Control Removal from Center Console?

Heater Control Removal from Center Console?
Okay, I've got everything off from the center console (e.g., screws, trim plate, etc.) and the screws for the heater control brace removed. But, how do you actually remove the center console? What I mean is there doesn't seem to be a way to just "lift off" the heater control because of all the connections. But, at the same time you can't get to those connections until you remove the center console. Is there a way of sorta' lifting and twisting the heater control (and associated brace) so that it goes through the center of the empty console and then lift the console off? By the way, it's a non-AC car.

It's the only way and a BIG PITA. I have mine out right now for the 3rd time, and it doesn't get any easier.
