Default Advice needed: Is this right?

I recently got my original tri-power set-up, so today I installed the (3937797) intake (onto the 3919840 heads) and I have this gap around the gasket, where the exhaust crossover is, and I don't know if this is ok or if it will be a problem?

I mean if I were to trim the gasket around the intake, it would expose more...so is this how it was originally or what?

I would just like a second opinion on this please.

That's a bad mis-match. Looks like the intake and head were never meant to be together.

Yes it is, and I am using the replacement gasket, which is what I don't understand, because the intake itself only seals the center exhaust crossover port. The head has a center square and outside square and that's what I don't understand...I mean I have all original equipment and this is what it is.

Well I ran the numbers and this is all the OEM equipment....which is why I don't understand if this is right or not. It should be correct...

Well, first off..yes it will work. It'll look funny, but it won't hurt anything.

I think you just have a gasket that is made incorrectly. You could use the Fel pro race type gaskets. They are solid across that area without the indentations that follow intake curvature and will cover the whole section. But I'm assuming you're after a somewhat stock look? If nothing else, the race gaskets do look nicer.

What gasket set is that? There's not by chance a right and left one with a different plate over the heat riser passage is there? Did you try flipping them around? Is it the same on both heads? The water passages did line up right? It appears to be on right from looking at intake port area.

It's a Fel Pro stock gasket set, I did flip them around just to be sure before tacking them to the heads, after I tacked them I checked that all lined up, it did, so I torqued to 30ft/lbs in 5lb increments. (I used RTV not the rubber end seals)

The other gaskets I looked at had no hole for the exhaust crossover.

So I take it nothing comes out of the outer square, so they technically don't have to be covered, right? The intake wouldn't cover it regardless, but I am confused if a gasket is 'supposed' to?
