New owner of a C3. Is there a thread on clock removal and repair?

Try our advanced search option. It's a sure fire way to find what you need and you already know the two best search words.

'Clock' and 'Repair.'

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/search.php

Click 'Archives' and enter your key words. Then, on the right, select from the various forums. You will get the best results in C3 Tech.

Yes. For photos and "how to do it instructions", go to www.zip-products.com Click on the Technical Articles section, 68-82. (lower right hand of screen).

Good instructions. I received those very same instructions when I bought my quartz replacement clock.

Here's a web page I used in attempting to actually repair the original clock . Great pix and narrative. My repaired clock worked fine on the bench and running off a battery charger, but hasn't worked at all since I reinstalled it in the car about a month ago. If I had it to do over again, I would simply replace the old movement with a new quartz movement.

Good Luck!

You could always install a newer head unit that has a digital clock right in the face plate. Most of the new ones sinq up with your favorite radio stations and update the time so it's always correct with our nations atomic clock. Some even change for daylight savings time changes.

If your clock is an original unit (not a quartz replacement), you are very handy with delicate mechanisms, and you want to try to save what you have, send me a PM or an e-mail and I'll offer what I've learned. If you just want to buy a replacement, any of the quartz clocks (with the correct dial face) will do.

When I did mine, I used the original dial face. You only get the quartz movement, you reuse your hands and dial face so the original look is maintained.

I rebuilt my clock just like the web site posted by 78 indypacecar. It has worked for three years without a problem and it was a cheap fix.

Contact cleaner to clean out & clock oil may get the mech. clock going.

Mine has always kept excellent time & was working fine when removed.
The mech. clock adjusts speed when it is set forward (faster) or backwards (slower). It may take several settings for it to be right. Only needed to be set for daylight saving time.

Thanks for the replies. I will probably buy a quartz clock for right now and tinker with the original when it is stored for the winter.
