carb or timing problem
When I let off the gas on my Vette (72 350 crate with 290 hp, qjet, edelbrock performer, and headers), it pops and sputters a little. I won't call it a backfire, as it is not that loud. It does it more when it is warm, and I think it has a little flat spot during acceleration in the mid range. The popping happens when I let off the gas when decellerating (not when standing still with the car in neutral). Any ideas? I am no tune up guru in terms of timing or carb adjusting. not real sure on this one,but sounds like unburt fuel in the exhaust system from running a bit rich. Cold engine needs rich mixture,warm doesnt. Eyes burn at idle or black smoke when getting on it?

I had a problem with my edelbrock when I let off the throttle I would get popping out the exhaust.Turned out to be the opposite it is caused by a lean condition called afterburn.Lars told me to go 2 stages richer on the jets on a Qjet.I changed metering rods on a edelbrock and car ran better and no more popping.
