454 Timing Question
I have a "72" 454 corvette engine. I just replaced my old distributor with a new HEI distributor. Does anyone know what the initial and total timing numbers are for that engine?
I would like to check the settings to make sure the dist. is set correct.
I set the initial timing at 6 degrees as it was before but it doesn't run as strong and it "Diesels" a bit when I shut down. It didn't do that before the change so I assume the timings not yet correct.
Any help would be appreciated.

Set up for 36 degrees total and hope for initial in the low- to mid-teen range - you may have to change the length of the curve to do this. Verify the vacuum advance is pulling in about16-or-so.
