Default Gas Cap Replacement

Went to buy a new gas cap for my 81 and was given a choice of
"Vented" or "Pre Vented".

I didn't buy either.

Anyone know which one I need or does it really not make any difference.

Thanks

I wasn't sure which to get for my 77 either. I went with the vented one. No problems.

I was told to use a vented cap on my 81.

Just to add to the discussion, does anyone know for sure, does it matter if the cap is vented? What I mean is if the car originally had a non-vented cap, would it matter if it had a vented cap? My car is non-vented right now and I am thinking it should be vented. Can a non-vented cap be made vented correctly, non bubba?

At the risk of being called bubba (again), I had a pressure problem and the vented replacement cap didn't help, so I drilled a very, very VERY small hole down thru the center of the cap and all is well now...others here will call it bubba...."find the problem, not a bandaid"...I feel it is a fixed problem....just my 2 cents

I had fought the pressurized gas tank problem for years, despite having a vented cap. The vent in a '69 cap has a spring type disk valve that continually stuck. I finally decided to punch a couple of small holes to provide a positive vent - I didn't want to drill to avoid getting metal shavings into the gas tank.
