Default 75 Hood induction flap

How far should the flap in my hood open? I finally got the WOT switch working correctly so the solenoid in the hood operates the flap and the kickdown is working on the transmission.

At the moment, the flap in the hood moves a very small amount. I assumed it would go from closed ( vertical ) to fully open, ie pivot 90 degrees to the horizontal position.

Can any of you guys with this system go stick your foot on the throttle and let me know how far your flap opens.

Many thanks.

Just out of curiosity, what years had this as standard and what was the reason for it being dropped?

I think it was used from 1973 to 1975.

Not sure why they stopped doing these.

Probably pretty expensive system between the hood, the air intake, the switches...

Also pretty heavy. Just guesses, but that's probably why it went away.

I had a '75 and I recall it opening all the way. Here's some other info:

Default Vader Vette

On my test bench the little dude opened totally flat from the up right position.I say test bench because I oiled it up and put it in the drawer with all the other parts Ive taken off bumper stuff mostly. are you trying to get yours to work.I put A 12v red light in place of this little air dam so that when you get the four barrell to work the red light comes on its cool at night looks like fire.

Jud, great link..thanks.

Lon, thats what I thought should happen. Just before we replaced the switch I connected it to a 12v battery and could here the solenoid clicking and the flap would move a little. With the switch connected it does exactly the same.
I will take it off the hood, lube it all up and get it working...Looking forward to hearing that induction roar Ive heard about!

Sweet looking Vette you have BTW.

The switch is made with the gas pedal under the dash. Many times a short piece of hose over the plastic switch rod will make the system work. The thickness of a floor mat can stop it from working. I think the switch self adjusted the first time you floored it.

Lyle, that is indeed correct. We reset the switch before it was put back in and then pressed the throttle to the floor. This then sets the switch as you said so each time the throttle is floored, it will operate.

I better check at WOT Im getting full operation of the carb whilst I think about it.
