Wiper motor wiring
I've got a '70 coupe that Bubba got to a few years before me and left me with a situation. The wipers haven't worked since I bought the car 2 years ago. I am trying to install a new wiper motor after cleaning up all the linkage only to find that Bubba has cut several wires for the wipers and washer. I still have the 3 connector in tact but I have no idea what the voltages should be. Also the black wire from the motor seems to want to connect to the red wire from the limit switch but somehow connecting red (usually hot) to black (usually ground) doesn't seem right. I really would rather not fry the new motor so any advice you can give would be appreciated. Also, is there a need to run a separate ground wire from the wiper switch? TIA
I have a 78. There should be a single white wire from the motor to the 25 amp fuse. Then I see a 2 wire connector with a purple wire and a grey wire going to the switch. And a single black wire going to ground.
The wiper switch does show a ground, has a note that it goes to the left hinge pillar above the courtesy light.
The washer pump shows a white single wire and a pink single wire.
The circuit should be hot with the ignition switch in the on or accy positions.
That is what I see in my wiring diagram.
I hope my 78 info helps on your 70. Any questions let me know and I can try to help.
A while back I had problems blowing the fuse and I found a washer pump wire shorting on the left exhaust header.

Thanks for responding so quickly. I think we have different set ups. The '70 has the vacuum powered door that covers the wipers and a lock out switch which prevents the wipers from operating when the cover is closed. This system is way more complicated than it needs to be, but that part of the fun of owning a vette!
Since Bubba can't read he never uses a Chassis Service Manual or a CORRECT wiring diagram. But you need to if you hope to get back to pre-Bubba. It's the only way you can know what was there before he worked his magic.
