Default Mods to L48

Hi all,

My L48 broke down during highway driving. :cry It will now be taken apart and restored. :) Since the engine is out of the Vette (red '79) I am considering doing some modifications. What would you suggest of modifications to a L48 that is mostly used for cruising (no drag racing)? Cost is not an issue at this point.

Vettelaw:

Check my signature. Well satisfied with the mods I made. Made them all with the engine in the car. If the engine was out, I would probably have gone for an overbore and flat top pistons. Like you, I don't drag race, but the car now runs like a high performance sports car, as intended.

Any questions, E-Mail me.

Redwing, how much money do you have in that rebuild?

I bet a ZZ4 crate would be cheaper.

mines a very drivable mod, not cheep tho:
AFR 190 heads
hypereutectic pistons
balanced
cam around .450 lift, mine is .458 with a mild duration (a hyd-roller cam would be better)
1.6 twin shaft mounted roller rockers
RPM airgap (yet to go on, have performer on atm)
square bore 650 double pumper HP series (will go on with manifold)

should look into getting your transmition reconditioned. mine was losing
power and made sloppy shifts. I had it changed before the mod.
the rear spring died when it came under the pressure of the mod and I
swapped it for a fibre spring

The AFR 190 heads is probably the major contributor here. gives great torque.

I love the engine. I hope this info helps.

Chris

I wish I had a little more low end torque but I didn't have the heads ported matched. She will still lite um up any time I want but 0-60 times are not as fast as I would like. The Intake helped alot. I didn't need the Holley but I was tired of messing around with the Q-jet.
As far as how much I spent:

Block bored (0.30" over) +
Heads gone through ( 2 Valves replaced)+
Flat Top Pistons+
Rings +
Barrings +
Crank ground +
Cam, lifters, and springs +
gasket set (Felpro Head gaskets)
Total = $1300
water pump & starter $75.00
Carb $300.00
Intake $104.00
