Default power door lock wiring

I am new to this forum. I need help with my 1979 vette my door locks didn't work got new actuators and switch pigtails drivers side hooked up fine both locks worked as to the passenger side the wiring color code does not match. The pigtail has 5 wires a black wire I assume Ground, an orange wire I assume hot 12v, a grey wire, a tan wire and a blue wire. the harness has an orange wire I assume hot 12v, a blue wire, and a black or dark grey wire. the 1979 wiring diagram shows the pigtail to have two black wires, a purple wire, a pink wire, and an orange wire. I have tryed different combos but when I try the passenger switch it blows the fuse but the drivers side switch works fine. Thanks for anyones HELP

Hey NoMoCrap(you picked a good one)
On the plastic part of the NEW pigtails are letters A B C D E -Tell me what color of each wire is, and to which letter it goes.
Also just in case tell me the colors of the harness on the car.
I will tell you exactly where each wire goes.
Also tell me how you wired the drivers side-letters and colors-Just because it works doesnt mean its correct-both sides work through each other and the wiring has to be correct.

DW is on the right track I just wanted to add not to leave out the switches. I just got the locks working on my 78 and after replacing actuators, figured out the problem was both actuators and switches. Used a meter and learned I had a dead terminal on the driver's side switch...once replaced, fired up the lock.

The passenger side is wired to work off the driver's side and gets its power from the orange wire that runs to the driver's side. Otherwise, 78 has a gray and tan wire lead from both sides.

Ok the drivers side is correct for 1979 wiring. The pass. side seems to have 1980 colors on the harness.Lets do it like this:
Orange from the harness to A orange on the pigtail
Blue from harness to C gray on the pigtail
Black from harness to D tan on pigtail
Now you have 2 wire left on pigtail B black and E blue-connect these 2 together and ground both to the door frame

Maybe this will help. This was created specifically for my '80, but I don't think the wiring changed colors.

Hmmm must be the color differance-do you have an ohm meter or a way to check continuity?

OK where did you go? Your harness colors are confusing-maybe a late 79.Maybe someone did some rewiring.Anyway your going to have to check continuity.Pull the plugs off both switches. On drivers side plug put your probe in B and then probe the pass side plug for continuity should be D-if its C then switch them. (DONT PROBE A thats orange and its hot)
Drivers side B has to be connected to Pass. side D
Drivers side E has to be connected to Pass. side C
Be sure of where the wires go in the new pigtails-its very easy to get that wrong-the wires go in at an angle and can be deceiving

OK gotta go -if you dont have a way to check continuity then just switch D and C on the pass. side pigtail but make absolutly certain that B & E are the wires grounded to the door.Check that plug it has 3 holes on the left but only 2 wires coming out on the left and on the right are 2 holes but 3 wires coming out.(also make sure A-orange is hot)Good Luck

DWncchs tried the latest cannot get continuity on either. But I think the switch is bad and may be shorting out and blowing fuse. I am ordering a new switch. I will keep you posted. Thanks Again JAY

You have to have continuity from drivers side to passenger side or they wont work.Look at the diagram Sixfooter posted.Look at the blue and the black wires?

DWncchs My meter had a dead battery. I checked for continuity and found none for the black wire, good for the blue wire, have everything hooked up as your info. The locks work from the drivers side and still blow the fuse from the pass side. Know I think the harness maybe the culprit. Thanks for your HELP this far. JAY
