Engine Replacement
Good day. I have a 1978 Vette with a tired engine (104,000 miles). I’m thinking of installing a HT383 from GM (12499101). I live in California so passing Smog is a concern. Any words of wisdom?

more cubic inches is totally legal. as long as you can retain all of your stock emissions equipment and pass the sniffer you should be ok. I would also go with a pumped up quadrajet from a place like sean murphy induction as they flow 750cfm versus the 600cfm you can get with a smog legal performance carb. other then that, i can't help much, i'm in the same boat with my 1980 and I'm still doing research.
