Default Balancer doesn't line up

I have my motor apart and when number 1 is at tdc the line on the balancer doesn't line up with the mark on my timing tab. Is it just a crappy tab? It is a newer balancer so I doubt it has slipped.

I had the same problem when I had to replace my old balancer. Mine problem turned out that the new balancer's mark was in a different location with regard to the crank's keyway. I simply hack-sawed a new 0* mark on the new balancer.

There was more than one timing tab over the years so the balancer & timing tab is a "matched pair" so to speak. You may find you have a balancer that requires a different timing tab. Of course if you have #1 exactly at TDC the easiest fix is to just put a new mark on the balancer.

But since you have it apart anyway you probably want to get the correct tab.

Smarter people buy the adjustable pointers and actually figure out true TDC and set it correctly.

It is about 4-6 degrees off. I will just put a new mark on it. I was putting my intake on and it seems that some of my bolt holes in the heads were cross threaded for some reason didn't notice it until I went to put it on again. So I had to take the rockers and push rods back out so I could drill and tap the holes to put heli-coils in which basically sucks.
