Default Shifter console rebuild question

Does anyone have a diagram for rebuilding the shifter console for a 74, 4 sp. I have had it apart before, but the a/c temp control seems to sit to low in the unit. Also the parking brake slide cover, will it streatch over the brake handle, or do I need to disasemble the unit?

Thanks

Leo

What year HVAC controls do you have? I know the later C3 controls sat lower in the console and had a plastic lens that filled it in keeping dust and dirt out of it.

The guys I have seen do this all had to take the handle off.

The PB handle slide cover has a slit in one side so it will slip around the handle.

(if you're talking about the sliding cover that hides the hole in the console that the brake handle sticks out of).

I don't have a '74 AIM, but I think the console is very similar to a '71. If your A/C control head is sitting "too low" in the console, you may have the A/C console bracket installed incorrectly. That assembly is a bit of a PITA to put together. The square bracket [frame] is supposed to fit underneath the face bezel of the A/C control head (you have to install the frame piece over the bezel plate in a ****-eyed manner, then seat it to the underside of the bezel); then there are two little sheet-metal screws that hold them together. That assembly is set into the console housing before the console plate is finally installed. Is that any help at all?

The bracket fits under the A/C contol? It seems the square bracket is held in place by the top sheetmetal screw between the a/c control and the console?

Sheet metal screws go thru the A/C head bezel and into the bracket. That assembly then sits in a recessed area in the console before the top plate is installed. When you put it together correctly, there will be no gap between them.
